Spring is here! I am so thankful for warm, sunny days and green grass, budding trees, the first wildflowers and herbs, and ‘all the things’ related to the season.
Spring cleaning is at the top of my to-do list. I don’t particularly relish the thought of all the work that awaits me, but I do anticipate having windows that sparkle and shine rather than add a hazy grime to the view. I do look forward to the annual decluttering of closets and cupboards, and the space and room to breathe that it creates.
I’ve recently discovered Brocante Home and am spending my evenings and afternoon quiet time devouring the Vintage Housekeeper books. Fun, inspirational reading, filled with practical housekeeping tips and tricks, not to mention those delightful puttery treats.
The Seasonal Scrub, A month-long countdown to Domestic Bliss! is my guide for this year’s attack on the dust and clutter that abounds. With one task per day and lots of treats and such along the way, I am rather looking forward to this year’s Simple Spring Clean.

Simple lavender sachet I made for the office today.
We all have those days, the ones when we just know we are going to need a little help to bring some peace and well-being to ourselves or our surroundings. Today was one such day. Full moon, rainy weather, and no small amount of external stress causing issues …
While waiting for my turn to shower I instinctively went to the still room and had an idea (the bowl of lavender I left out on the table was the first hint). I pulled a muslin bag out of the cabinet, stuck a piece of parchment paper inside, found a few pretty stamps and added Peace and some flowers and a dragonfly with blue ink. I stuffed the bag with lavender flowers and added 5 drops of Rose Geranium essential oil.
It’s now sitting on my desk bringing me peace and calm in the midst of chaos. I love aromatherapy and how something so simple can bring such health and happiness.

Yes, absolutely. When they are filled with good for you ingredients and taste like this.
Breakfast can be interesting around here. With 3 teens who have different eating habits and preferences- one is hungry the moment she wakes up, one wants to wait until she is awake (Which means she may need to read for 2 hours first. Yes, we homeschool so she can totally do that!), and the middle love is vegan so that’s a whole other set of things to work with (not bad things, all of the females in our family lean heavily toward vegetarian eating anyway).
Lucky for me, these cookies are just the thing for all preferences and particularities in the a.m. They are also the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee, which is my morning must these days.
So, here you are, my first recipe on the Simple Herbal Home Blog-
preheat oven to 350
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, warmed to liquid state
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2/3 cup almond meal (can use regular flour if you don’t need gluten free option)
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp baking powder (non-aluminum is my preference)
- 2/3 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts and almonds are my favorite)
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
Mix mashed bananas with coconut oil and vanilla. Add oats, almond meal (or flour), salt, baking powder, and stir until combined. Stir in coconut, chocolate chips, and nuts. Form dough into 1-2 inch balls, flatten slightly, and bake on parchment sheet lined cookie sheets for 15 minutes or until just slightly browned. Cool on wire rack and enjoy!
